Ebook File Type – PDF vs Custom

I have been asked a few times on the recommended format for ebooks.

There are a few alternatives for file types when it comes to ebooks. The most popular and best one to use if Adobe PDF. It is widely accepted in terms of that most of the people have Adobe Acrobar Reader installed on their computer which is used to open the PDF ebook.

The alternative to PDF is DOC and a few custom formats, that  require custom programs in order to open the ebook. With regards to Doc format, its simply not acceptable as the ebook is easily editable in MS Word format and you want to avoid people from editing your ebook.

So, the verdict is that PDF file is the best one to use for ebooks.

Ebook Website Design and Google Slap

When it comes to ebook website design, it is important to make the website comply with all the Google Adwords guidelines. The main reason for this is that adwords is the most common way of advertising ebook sites and it is important to get it right.

Google Slap is the penalty from Google Adwords when they think that your campaigns are not set up relevantly enough. This usually results in high cost per click.

The main focus to avoid Google Slap is to have your keywords broken down into ad groups and each ad group have ads containing those keywords as well. If this is achieved, then your quality score will be high cost per click will be lower.

Ebook Web Design – Plain vs Colorful

A lot of people ask me if ebook website needs to be really colorful and designed professionally with all the graphics.

The simple answer is no. When it comes to ebook web design, the pretty look isn’t necessary, as the sales letter is the main focus of the person visiting the site.

By saying that, I dont mean that all ebook websites need to be plain and simple.

I personally think that if a website is about a hobby, something that a person is connected to, it is nice to be able to bring out his emotions with the graphics.
